GWAR

GWAR es una banda de Thrash Metal satírico formada en 1985. Es reconocida por sus elaborados disfraces inspirados en películas de ciencia ficción y terror, sus letras obscenas y sus actuaciones escénicas, que consisten en interpretaciones humorísticas con temáticas conflictivas como el tabú y la política. Los disfraces, que son generalmente realizados de látex, poliestireno expandido y goma endurecida, cubren poco el cuerpo de los músicos, siendo mayoritariamente cubierto por maquillaje. La producción, además, incluye arrojar a los espectadores con fluidos de imitación. La mayoría de éstos están hechos con agua y colorantes. GWAR no utiliza almíbar ni sangre ficticia, ya que éstas al secarse deterioran los disfraces.

Otra características del espectáculo de GWAR es la sátira hacia las celebridades y figuras importantes en eventos actuales. Algunas víctimas de este espectáculo fueron O.J Simpson, John Kerry, Mike Tyson, George W. Bush (como también todo Presidente de EEUU desde Ronald Reagan), Osama Bin Laden, Michael Jackson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Adolf Hitler, entre otros. La banda también hace referencias a varias figuras políticas, históricas, de la mitología y de la literatura fantástica. Adicionalmente, GWAR se inspira en muchos trabajos de H. P. Lovecraft (Antarctica, Yig, Los Pingüinos Gigantes, etc.).

Originalmente, el estilo de GWAR fue influenciado por el punk rock, componiendo temas cortos y simples, que con el tiempo evolucionaron a una influencia más hardcore, con la experimentación musical siendo reconocible en los trabajos Scumdogs of the Universe (Perros del Universo), America Must Be Destroyed (America debe ser destruida) y This Toilet Earth (Esta tierra retrete). Luego, esta tendencia eclipsó su estilo heavy metal, convirtiendo a GWAR en una mezcla caótica de géneros, muy notables en sus trabajos RagNaRok (en referencia al Ragnarok de la mitología nórdica) y Carnival of Chaos (Carnaval del Caos), siendo este el más variado musicalmente en toda la historia de la banda.

Su trabajo de 1999, titulado We Kill Everything (Nosotros matamos todo), presentaría un sonido inusual, basado principalmente en grabaciones de la era de Hell-O, resultando en un álbum que los mismos integrantes de la banda consideran su peor trabajo, llevándolos a retomar su sonido thrash metal, re-introducido en su trabajo Violence Has Arrived (La Violencia ha Llegado), que posteriormente evolucionaría en una forma más técnica de thrash, presente en el álbum War Party (Partido de Guerra) y en Beyond Hell (Más allá del Infierno).
